Championship White Bread
Directions:
Ingredients
- 1 pkg active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 2 tsp. salt
- 4 1/2-5 cups all-purpose flour
Directions
- Dissolve yeast in water
- Warm milk slightly, add to yeast
- Beat in sugar, shortening, salt, and 2 cups flour
- Add more flour to form a soft dough
- Turn out on board and let rest 10 minutes
- Knead 5-10 minutes until a smooth, elastic dough is formed
- Place in lightly greased bowl, turning to grease entire surface of dough. Let rise until double
- Punch down, let rest a few minutes
- Roll into a rectangle, then roll up like a jelly roll. Punch out any air bubbles
- Place seam side down in a lightly greased large loaf pan. Let rise until almost double
- Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 30-40 minutes.
- Remove from pan and cool on wire rack
